A Patent on Truth

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

قَوْلُهُ الْحَقُّ

'His word is the Truth'

(Surat al-An’am: 73)

This article was written by Ra'sul Hududil Mayameen Janab Syedi Aziz Bhaisaheb Qutbuddin in 2017.

When Yaqutatu Da’watil-Haqq Shehzadi Dr. Tahera Baisaheba was pursuing her PhD at Harvard University, one of her professors hosted Syedna Khuzaima Qutbuddin RA, and over the course of the lunch, he asked Syedna questions on many subjects, particularly Islamic history and Fatimid philosophy. Syedna Qutbuddin answered with confidence and with firm belief in the wealth of knowledge of Aal-e-Mohammed. The professor commented “You speak as if you have a patent on truth!” Syedna Qutbuddin did not apologize or qualify his previous answers. Instead he said, “Yes! If I do not believe my statements and answers to be the Truth then on what basis am I leading my life, on what basis am I guiding my followers? I have full conviction that what I believe is the Truth.” Moved by Syedna’s wisdom, the professor invited him to speak at the University, saying, “Just as I benefitted from your insights today, I want my students to benefit from your insights too.”

Syedna Qutbuddin’s confidence and conviction were exemplary. He was also a beacon of humility. Through his directions as well as his own actions, he taught us that we must respect other people and other beliefs. But he also taught us that doing so does not mean that we are in any way tenuous or insecure about our own beliefs.

The teachings and example of our Awliyaa’ Kiraam, especially Syedna Qutbuddin, inspire us to embrace our beliefs with confidence and conviction and to embrace others with respect and regard. In remembrance of these invaluable teachings, we are pleased to launch Taqreeb.org.
