The Shaheeds of Ahmedabad: Lessons to Learn

الَّذِينَ قَالَ لَهُمُ النَّاسُ إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدْ جَمَعُوا لَكُمْ فَاخْشَوْهُمْ فَزَادَهُمْ إِيمَانًا وَقَالُوا حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ

'Men said to them: "A great army is gathering against you": And frightened them: But it (only) increased their Faith: They said: "For us Allah is sufficient, and He is the best disposer of affairs."'

As we commemorate the auspicious urus of Syedna Qutbuddin Shaheed RA, we cannot help but remember and reflect on his tremendous sacrifice for the sake of Haqq. When we visit Ahemdabad for the ziarat of Syedna Qutbuddin Shaheed RA and the other eight Du’at Mutlaqeen and their hudud fudala’, we are also always extremely humbled by the hundreds of Shahids – ordinary mumineen who proved themselves to be extraordinary (anything but ordinary) – mumineen who sacrificed their lives for the sake of Haqq. The qabars of these Shahids are clearly marked in the qabrastran in Ahmedabad with red stars. In the qabrastan, wherever you look, there are so many of them. To imagine that so many mumineen sacrificed their lives – sometimes even their children – for the sake of truth and their aqida in their Dai is truly humbling. Their sacrifice assured the highest darajaat for them in jannat. Their sacrifice is the reason by which we are mumin today. May Allah Ta’ala grant them afzalul jazaa’ on our behalf. Consider that they are looking on to us today, a day and age where the physical danger to us is nowhere nearly as acute as it was for them, what would they say?

Do we learn from their example? The Shahids? Or do we follow the example of the others who to safeguard their worldly interests denounced the Dai, and generations strayed away from Sirat-e-Mustaqeem. Whose example is worth following? In our day and age, Syedna Khuzaima Qutbuddin TUS is the true successor of Syedna Qutbuddin Shaheed RA. He is following the example of his namesake and standing up for Haqq and his duty towards the Imam no matter what. Mumineen akin to the Shahids of Ahmedabad are standing with him. Are you one of them?
