On 24th Rabiul Aakhar (13th February) Syedna Khuzaima Qutbuddin was warmly received by the President of India His Excellency Shri Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
In this hour-long meeting, Syedna Qutbuddin recounted the 51st and 52nd Syednas’ legacy of leading the community towards education, prosperity and being contributing citizens to our nation. Syedna Qutbuddin also emphasized the importance of good character and education as the impetus for his vision for the progress of the community and the nation at large. Syedna also mentioned that he inculcated in his own children, sons and daughters, the values of the Dawoodi Bohra faith and simultaneously encouraged them to pursue secular education. The President profoundly appreciated the academic achievements of Syedna’s family, particularly the fact that six family members had completed their PhD’s at world renowned universities. Syedna added that, “it is the same path of pursuing both religious and secular education that I envision and endeavor for my spiritual children [mumineen].” The President appreciated Syedna’s vision and conveyed that this was indeed an example of wise leadership that will benefit the community and the nation. When Syedna stated that, “this is what I hope to achieve for my community,” the President remarked that, “you have already achieved this,” referring to the example set by Syedna in his own family.
Syedna also spoke of the importance of communal harmony in the progress of our nation. He said that the Dawoodi Bohra religion teaches that there is some goodnessin all religions. He added that this awareness creates an environment of mutual respect and harmony. Syedna quoted several verses from the Qur’an, and also sayings of Rasulullah and awliyaa’ kiraam, and highlighted the significance of human beings helping one another and the importance of social justice. Syedna also stressed that we consider that service to one’s nation is the duty of every community member.
Syedna’s vision is the vision of a true spiritual leader, the vision of a wise leader. Such a vision and such a meeting is a source of honour for us all.
Wa lillahil ‘izzatu wa li rasulihi wa lil mu’mineen (Honour belongs to Allah Ta’ala, His Rasul and Mumineen).
