The end of Shehrullah al-Mo’azzam 1438H is imminent. The sadness of the month departing and the joy of Eid-ul Fitr approaching conjures waves of emotion. For Shehrullah is not any month. We part with it as if we are parting with a beloved companion.

On the 30^th day of Ramadaan, after Zohr Nafilat, we recite Imam Ali Zainul Aabedin’s SA doa beseeching farewell to the holy month of Shehrullah al-Mo’azzam. In this doa Imam SA personifies the month as an honored guest that stayed with us for a month:

'Shehre Ramadaan stayed with us a cherished guest. It gave us of its bounty, and we obtained in it the best profits in the world. Then, now when its time ends … it departs, and we bid it farewell.

We call out: Salaam to you, Allah’s greatest month! … Salaam to you most honored month, containing the finest days and hours! Salaam to you, a month in which wishes were fulfilled, and good deeds were accomplished! Salaam to you, a companion whose majestic presence gladdened, and whose departure now saddens! … Salaam to you, a beloved who delighted by its arrival, and whose parting now causes distress! Salaam to you, a month in which hearts became soft and sins melted away! Salaam to you, a month that aided us to fight Satan, and smoothened for us the path of goodness and giving! …

Salaam to you, a month which no other month can equal! Salaam to you, a safeguard from every calamity! ... Salaam to you, you came to us bringing barakaat, and washed away our transgressions! … Salaam to you, we waited for you to arrive, and grieve at your leaving! Salaam to you, how many hardships were turned away from us because of you! How many good things were given to us because of you! Salaam to you, and to Lailatul Qadr, greater than a thousand months! Salaam to you, … we will eagerly wait for you to return!'

We offer praise and thanks to Allah Ta’ala for the immeasurable bounty of this month. We offer gratitude and shukur to Allah’s wali, Imam-uz-zaman’s Dai Syedna Taher Fakhruddin TUS for guiding us leading us in prayer in this holy month. It is by following his lead and example that we do roza and celebrate Eid. It is because of his walaayat and mohabbat that Allah Ta’ala accepts our deeds. As we recite in bihori:

"It is because of your mohabbat that that our deeds are accepted, it is because of your mohabbat that our and sins shortcomings are forgiven"

(bihubbikum tuqbalul-a’maaalu in qubilat * wa yughfaruz-zanbu lil-‘aaseena in ghufira)

May Allah Ta’ala accept our amal and good deeds in this holy month by the wasila of his Awliya’ Kiraam and especially by the wasila of Dai-z-zaman. As Imam Ali Zainul Aabedeen beseeches in the wada doa, may Allah Ta’ala, give us long life so that we may welcome Shehrullah al-Mo’azzam again next year.

With gratefulness in our hearts, and sadness in our souls we say, “Farewell Ramadaan.”
